Question by : Any recommendations for a Renewable Green Tech for a typical home?
I’m constantly looking for confident information on acquiring renewable energy, specifically solar and/or wind energy. Recently I saw something about DyoCore Solair on “This New House” which peaked my interest. Its a small solar/wind turbine that can fit on top of your existing home and take advantage of the wind and solar at the same time. Can’t find many reviews nor do I know too much about what to look out for.
Has anyone seen or have a strong opinion on this? If not perhaps an alternative unit thats affordable…if not affordable, maybe something to look out for in the future when prices do come down.
thanks.

Question by Judith A: Can you recommend a “green” national (USA) or international organization to affiliate with?
A friend and I would like to bring together the green community in Licking County, Ohio (Newark, Heath, Granville, Pataskala, etc.). I think there might be advantages to affiliating with a “green” national or international group with an active website and chapters. This name is probably too long, but I was thinking of Green Local Abundant Simple and Sustainable (GLASS). My special interest is in DIY solar and alternative energy, and my friend is especially interested in recycle-renew-reuse, but we’d like the group to include people with related interests, such as organic gardeners and local farmers, people interested in abundant simplicity and in sustainability, such as energy, economy, right livelihood, and eliminating poverty.
Any thoughts, either on choosing a group to affiliate with or on tips for starting and sustaining a local group? Thanks for any help. Judith Waite Allee, co-author, “Educational Travel on a Shoestring”
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, none of them appears to have affiliated chapters or else they are too narrowly focused (like gardening, when I’m more interested in solar. Any other ideas welcome. At this point, though, I might narrow the focus to DIY energy. I’m familiar with Green Energy Ohio and might be able to link up with them. Still gathering info, though, so please keep coming with the suggestions. Thanks for your help!

Contact your local building department, I’m sure they would have a list of contractors in your area that specialize in those areas.

Question by : Is creating an online store for green energy products a good idea?
I am considering to create something like northern tool, but focused only on green(renewable) energy: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/category_alternative-renewable-energy
As an advantage, I can find solar panels for prices less than $ 1.8/watt retail which is something given that best retailers these days don’t fall < $ 2. Solar energy for instances doubles in demand recently every 2 years and in 2009 the government (us) passed some bill to subside households that buy alternative energy products - so you can save additionally about 40% or something. So...in a nutshell, I know there are way too many things to consider, like initial investment, certificates, marketing, but my major concern is if this business will make money in that economy and in a relatively new unknown area to the end customer. 10x!

Starting just about any business right now is a bad idea due to the probable collapse of the U.S. economy…buy gold…buy things to sustain yourself for 3 to 6 months. It’s gonna get really bad soon.

Question by Julia
: What is geothermal energy and how can it help you go green?
Hey, i’ve got to do a research project for school, and i know that geothermal is generated in the earth’s core about 4000 miles below the surface. but i don’t know what is it exactly. and in a normal everyday home, how can it help you to be GREEN?

Answer by snorkweezl
geothermal energy for home applications isn’t really usable energy in the same way that solar power is. Homes use geothermal “energy” as a way of maintaining a more constant ambient temperature in their home, which means their heating and cooling units don’t have to work quite as hard to make up the difference. Trane has a system and product specs that can probably explain it better.
